We have had nothing but rainy days and cool temps in Houston since coming back from Ohio. I swear the lack of sunshine is beginning to get to me. With daddy traveling for the week and ONE day of sunshine, I seized the opportunity and took the girls to the zoo. We have had a shaky past with the zoo. Claire never enjoys the animals and Norah has been too young to really take it all in. But today we brought the wagon and really dove in. We were there for 4 hours!
We joined friends in today's adventure which was a bonus. We really haven't seen them since we have been back so it really was the perfect way to spend the day.
Claire really enjoyed the animals today...particularly the elephants. We encountered the coolest experience there though. I witnessed the mom elephant disciplining her baby. She kept corralling him with her trek trying to keep him from the fence. Like most little ones, he resisted. She kept doing it...and finally he relented. After all of that, they exchanged a kiss. It was so sweet. It showed me that discipline and love go hand in hand. We love our children unconditionally but we need to keep them in line. Just because we might yell doesn't mean we love them any less.
We rounded out the day with some good bonding time. We watched our favorite Tinkerbell movie and snuggled in bed. It is hard with daddy gone but we get into a groove of our own. As tired as I am at the end of day two on my own, I am grateful for such a great day. Watching their little minds swell with joy and new experiences is a true blessing. I am so glad I am able to be alongside them each and every day. I never want to take it for granted.
Memorable moments:
- Claire being my nurse and telling me "don't worry momma I take care of you."
- Norah's unsolicited "I love you momma" followed by a kiss
- Claire: "I poop like the cows" (she watched a cow poop at the zoo)
- as everyone played the drums at the zoo Norah lifted her shirt and played her belly...good alternative!
